367 picThis hull shape has been fined tuned over successive vessels. Rough seas on the first night of a delivery voyage from Queensland to New Zealand provided a thorough test. Departing from the Gold Coast, one of these designs steamed to Lord Howe Island, refuelled, then carried on to Wellington, taking three and a half days for the voyage at an average speed of 23 knots. It was later recalled from the voyage "The first night we had two and a half to three metre seas on the beam for five or six hours, with rain squalls, thunder and lightning". 367 pic

The bridge deck of this multi-hull has an overall length of 23.95 metres, waterline length of 21.75 metres, beam of 8.00 metres, and draft of 1.40 metres. The vessel carries 150 passengers, with the seating on the main deck arranged in a 3-5-3 configuration. Facilities include tables between the last six rows in the central seating block, plus single tables between the last two rows to port and starboard, four television receivers for on-voyage entertainment, and a well-equipped kiosk at the deck’s after end.

Boarding is via gateways leading to the aft deck, with access to the upper deck and its al fresco seating provided by a central companionway reached by individual stairways to port and starboard. Toilets with deck access are positioned each side at the after end of the superstructure, and there are four large luggage containers immediately ahead of the transom. 367 pic

Twin MTU 12V2000 MTU marine diesels are designed to provide the propulsion, each developing 1005 hp at 2100 rpm, they are coupled to Teignbridge Aqua Quin propellers through ZF BW250 gearboxes and fuelled by 6000 litres of diesel. Fresh water capacity is 1600 litres, with auxilary power supplied by a Perkins 40 kVA genset. The power package results in a maximum speed of 30 knots, and a cruising speed of 28 knots. The vessel generates a very low wash, in fact lower than most river ferries that have been purpose built to operate in environmentally sensitive waterways. It is very exciting  the way she has exceeded our performance expectations".
